Manhattan Getaways wants its guests to arrive at a clean and safe New York City accommodation. We personally inspect and photograph each furnished room and private apartment that we represent.

FURNISHED ROOMS are located in a New York City apartment and the New Yorker also lives in the same apartment with the guest. Not all rooms have a private bathroom; many have a shared bathroom with the host. Breakfast varies: some hosts offer a small continental breakfast of coffee or tea, juice and a pastry item; other hosts are more generous while some hosts offer no breakfast at all. Depending upon the host, guest kitchen privileges vary considerably. Linens are provided. Some rooms have telephones, TV/cable and other amenities. Internet access may or may not be available. This type of accommodation works best for the traveler who needs a helping hand discovering New York City or who someone who travels on a budget.

PRIVATE APARTMENTS in New York City range from a studio (single room) to a one- or two-bedroom apartment. They are fully furnished and include linens and kitchen utensils. Some are used full time as a rental property; others are a private residence, which the New York City host vacates for a period of time. It's suggested that you purchase a pre-paid calling card for long distance service, or use a cell phone. Also, some apartments do not have a land line any more. Our apartments have TV/cable/VCR and air conditioning. Many have high-speed or wireless Internet connections; some hosts allow guests to use their personal computer. Note: We cannot accommodate six guests in one apartment and rarely can accommodate five. Up to four is the optimum number.

OUR HOSTS represent a wide range of New Yorkers. They are chosen for their friendliness, love of New York City and their natural ability to make guests feel at home. Manhattan Getaways makes every effort to match furnished room guests with the right hosts and to place our private apartment guests into the appropriate environment.

MAID SERVICE is not provided in furnished rooms or in private apartments. Upon your arrival, be sure to ask the procedure since each host has a different method. Please do not expect to use a fresh towel on a daily basis. What is supplied should be sufficient. For monthly private apartment rentals, a cleaning person is suggested and needed approximately every two weeks. Most hosts can arrange for a cleaning person. You may be asked to pay for this service.

Please be a clean guest and respect your surroundings. If you break an item, damage furniture or linens, please advise Manhattan Getaways or your host so that an amicable decision can be made regarding payment.

SMOKING is not permitted in the majority of Manhattan Getaways' furnished rooms and the private apartments. If the accommodation has a terrace, the smoker is requested to smoke outside. If the host is a smoker, that is clearly stated in the description.

New York City law prohibits smoking inside all bars, restaurants, nightclubs and other public facilities. Exempt from the ban are cigar bars and tiny bars where the only worker is the owner. Smoking is not permitted on buses or in the subway, elevators and many other public areas.
